About the Game

What kind of game is LocoMo?

LocoMo is a cozy village builder and living-world sandbox. Build towns, design transportation routes, decorate the world, and watch thousands of tiny villagers move through the systems you create.

It is not a traditional city management game focused on budgets, taxes, or solving urban problems. The focus is on creativity: building, connecting, customizing, and watching your world come alive.

Is LocoMo a city builder?

Yes, but we see LocoMo as part of a new kind of cozy living-world builder.

It combines cozy world-building, full tile-level customization, transportation design, and thousands of individually simulated villagers. Some games do parts of that really well, but LocoMo brings those pieces together in one living miniature world, where every path, building, route, and connection helps shape how villagers travel, play, socialize, and live inside the world you create.

Is there a fail state or way to lose?

LocoMo is intended to be relaxing and sandbox-focused. The goal is not to punish players for imperfect choices. You can build, experiment, decorate, and improve your world at your own pace, and there is no way to lose.

If you want more of a challenge, there are optional goals and achievements to work toward that will stretch your creativity.

How LocoMo Compares

Is LocoMo like Animal Crossing?

Some players may feel a cozy similarity, but LocoMo is very different.

In Animal Crossing, you usually play as a character living inside a town. In LocoMo, you play as the village itself. You shape the world, design routes, place buildings, and watch thousands of villagers live inside the systems you create.

Is LocoMo like Stardew Valley?

LocoMo shares Stardew Valley's warmth, low-pressure pace, and community feel, but the player's role is different.

In Stardew Valley, you play as one farmer building a life in an existing town. In LocoMo, you build the town itself, shaping the terrain, paths, and buildings that thousands of villagers then live inside.

Is LocoMo like The Sims?

In The Sims, you guide the story of one household inside a town that already exists. In LocoMo, there's no single household to manage.

You shape the entire town, and we're building LocoMo so each of the thousands of villagers living inside it has their own story, with life events tracked over time as they form routines and relationships shaped by the paths, buildings, and connections you create.

Is LocoMo like Cities: Skylines or SimCity?

LocoMo has some city-building DNA, but it is not trying to be a hardcore city management simulator.

Cities: Skylines and SimCity focus heavily on infrastructure, budgets, zoning, traffic, and large-scale city management. LocoMo is more about cozy world-building, transportation routes, customization, and building the way you want.

You can follow goals and achievements if you want more direction, but the heart of LocoMo is creating your own miniature world and watching thousands of tiny villagers live inside it.

Is LocoMo like Townscaper?

Townscaper is a beautiful creative toy focused on instant architectural building. LocoMo gives you that same joy of shaping a charming world, then takes it further.

Thousands of tiny villagers live inside what you build, moving through it and reacting to it, filling it with a real sense of life rather than leaving it as a still, quiet picture.

Is LocoMo like Islanders?

LocoMo shares some of the relaxing building appeal of games like Islanders, but it adds a living simulation layer.

In LocoMo, the world is not just a pretty layout. Thousands of tiny villagers move through it, use routes, visit places, and react to what you build.

Is LocoMo like Mini Metro or Mini Motorways?

LocoMo includes transportation design, but it is not a pure puzzle game.

Mini Metro and Mini Motorways are focused on efficient network puzzles. LocoMo lets you create paths, trains, boats, and planes as part of a broader cozy village world where villagers use the routes you design.

Is LocoMo like Factorio or Timberborn?

LocoMo is inspired by that same satisfaction of designing systems and watching them run, but it isn't a pure production or logistics simulator.

You're free to build purely for beauty and charm, or lean into optimizing your paths, railways, and connections if that's more your style, including working toward achievements that can get genuinely challenging.

Is LocoMo like Minecraft or Terraria?

LocoMo shares that player-driven, build-it-yourself creative freedom, but it isn't a survival game. There's no combat and nothing chasing you while you build.

Everything you place shapes how thousands of tiny villagers live, travel, and socialize inside the world you make.

Is LocoMo like LEGO Loco or SimTown?

If you remember those games, you'll likely recognize the feeling we're going for.

LocoMo brings that same toy-like, handcrafted miniature-world charm forward with modern visuals, transportation you design yourself, and thousands of individually simulated villagers living inside the world you build.

Is LocoMo like RimWorld?

RimWorld is loved for the emergent stories that come from watching individual colonists live, struggle, and react to crises.

LocoMo is going for that same feeling of individual characters with stories worth following, but without RimWorld's survival pressure, combat, or crisis management. In LocoMo, villagers' stories grow out of the cozy world you build, not threats you have to fight off.

Is LocoMo like Dwarf Fortress?

Dwarf Fortress is famous for the incredible depth behind every dwarf and every event, and for stories that emerge from systems most players never fully see.

LocoMo draws on that same love of systems that create real stories, but it's built to be approachable and relaxing rather than punishing. There's no permadeath, no fortress under siege, and no steep learning curve, just a cozy world where villagers' lives play out in front of you.

Is LocoMo like WorldBox?

WorldBox lets you play god over civilizations from a distance, sculpting terrain and unleashing disasters on tiny pixel people.

LocoMo puts you closer to the ground. Instead of god-like powers, you build by hand, placing the paths, homes, and routes that shape how your villagers actually live, without the disaster and combat side of WorldBox's sandbox.

Gameplay

How many villagers are simulated?

Our goal is to support thousands of tiny villagers living and moving through the world. We are actively testing large populations during development and will continue optimizing performance as the game grows.

Will LocoMo have trains?

Yes. Trains are a major part of the vision for LocoMo. Players will be able to design routes and connect parts of their world through rail transportation.

Will LocoMo have boats and planes?

Yes. Our plan is for LocoMo to include multiple transportation types, including trains, boats, and planes. Some systems may arrive or expand over time during development.

Will LocoMo have relationships, pets, or villager personalities?

These are part of the broader vision for LocoMo. We want villagers to feel like they have little lives inside your world, including routines, social behavior, and charming interactions. Some of these systems may be expanded over time.

Will LocoMo be moddable?

We're building LocoMo with modding in mind. All of our tile sets will be moddable, so players can create and share their own. More details will come as development continues.
